The site, beautifulpeople.com has been a source of anger for many who have come across it. The matchmaking site got rid of nearly 5,000 accounts last month for being too fat and too ugly. The site only accepts beautiful people, who are looking to have beautiful babies.
“Every parent would like their child to be blessed with many fine attributes, attractiveness being one of the most sought after,” said the director of the web site. “For a site with members who resemble Brad Pitt, George Clooney and Angelina Jolie, you can imagine the demand.”
It was first founded in Denmark in 2002, and launched in the United States in 2005. It is a place where sexually attractive singles can meet and hook up with one another. In order to become a member, you have to submit a picture of yourself, and then you will be voted in, or voted out by the members of the site.
“Initially, we hesitated to widen the offering to nonbeautiful people,” said the founder of the website. They now allow people who are not so good looking to acquire “beautiful” sperm and eggs to help them give birth to a beautiful child.
The idea of “designer babies” has been a heated debate topic for a long time, and this site is taking the debate to the next level. It will be interesting to see if the site is able to survive amid all of the criticism that it receives.
