Egg Recall 2010: Wright County Egg & Salmonella Linked Since 2008 – Wright County Egg, one of the two major egg producers that recently announced a nationwide recall of over 500 million eggs, has recently had paperwork released that gives evidence that the egg producer had 73 instances of testing positive for salmonella ever since 2008.
The records were given to Congress, as part of the ongoing investigation into the salmonella outbreak, however they did not show if there had been any action taken by Wright County Egg after the tests came back positive. Austin J. DeCoster, the owner of the company, will testify in a hearing on Tuesday.
Two of the legislators that belong to some of the committees making the investigation have warned DeCoster that he should be ready to describe to the committee the actions he took after he received the positive test results and “whether you shared these results with the FDA or other federal or state food safety officials.”
Over half a billion eggs were recalled throughout the months of July and August in one of the largest food recalls ever. Wright County Egg and Hillandale Farms were both found to be distributing salmonella tainted eggs throughout the country.
