A Pakistani candy called “Toxic Waste Nuclear Sludge Chew Bars” turned out to be toxic when ingested and was therefore immediately recalled.
Tests which were run on the cherry flavor chew bars revealed that there were high levels of lead, translating into .024 parts per million when the standard in the U.S is just 0.1. The Food and Drug Administration have said that the bars could result in serious health problems, especially for small children and infants.
The recall which was recently issued applies to all of the flavors of the candy which the company has been making from 2007 until January of 2011.
The toxic candy was imported from the country of Pakistan by a company called “Circle City Marketing and Distributing” which is based out of India and claimed that no reports of illness have occurred as a result of ingesting the candy bars.
Health officials say that it was only a matter of time until the reports started coming in though, adding that the recall was an extremely necessary step in protecting the public at large.
Children are the ones who are most vulnerable to the effects that the candy bars could have on the human body.
