Actor Charlie Sheen was taken to the hospital on Thursday morning after he announced that he was suffering from severe stomach pains.
At the time, his representative Stan Rosenfield, announced that he did not have any other details other than the ones that had already been released. “All I know is what I was told—that he was having sever abdominal pains,” he said.
However, new information has come to light, and it now appears that Sheen has been suffering from a hiatal hernia, according to The LA Times.
The definition of a hiatal hernia, according to the Mayo Clinic, is when “part of your stomach pushes upward through your diaphragm. Your diaphragm normally has a small opening (hiatus) that allows your food tube (esophagus) to pass through on its way to connect to your stomach. The stomach can push up through this opening and cause a hiatal hernia.”
In most cases the condition will result in severe pain, and may also require surgery in order to repair stomach position. For now, Sheen’s show “Two and a Half Men” is currently on hiatus for the week, and will begin production again on Monday.
