A new study was released that shows that simply being overweight can be hazardous to your health, not just obesity. Although there was no concrete evidence of this some years ago, and many people simply thought that obesity was the major health concern, it was recently been shown that being slightly overweight carries health risks with it as well.
With obesity, the health risks are severe and varied. There is the risk of heart disease, stroke, cancer, and others. However, many people thought that simply being overweight was not a big deal, and could even be slightly beneficial. But a new study that involved roughly 1.5 million people revealed that health people who were overweight were nearly 13 percent more likely to pass away earlier than those who weighed in at the ideal range for their height.
The senior author of the study, Dr. Michael Thun from the American Cancer Society, said, “Having a little extra meat on your bones—if that meat happens to be fat—is harmful, not beneficial.”
These results agree with three other large studies that were done, and are now considered concrete evidence that being overweight at all is a health risk.
