Viagra and Higher Rates of STDs Linked – Discovering where STD’s originated from would take lifetimes of research and it’s already consumed several decades of work. However, focusing on what causes higher rates of STD’s provides more immediate results and it has already triggered some alarming news. Recent studies suggest that there are undeniable ties to drugs like Viagra that help stimulate sex for men and higher rates of STD’s. Viagra is a particularly popular drug amongst older men who suffer from unfortunate things like erectile dysfunction.
When you’re suffering from such problems, help seems necessary and drugs like Viagra were designed to do exactly that. However, these same drugs appear to be increasing the amount of sexually transmitted diseases. A study showed that nearly 1.4 million men have been affected by the news.
Some researchers at the Massachusetts General Hospital and the University of Southern California say that the problem is not within the drugs themselves but the behavior of the men who use them. Essentially this means that there is no fault in Viagra and other erectile dysfunction medication. Rather, men who are using these drugs are actively seeking out sex and therefore the amount of STD’s among men has increased. Researches also suggested that practicing safe sex techniques could diminish these results substantially.
This is the first report that has included research involving higher rates of STD’s among men who use drugs like Viagra. It’s been made very clear that there are no dangers or risks in using the drugs but your own behavior is the risk in itself. Dr. Anupam B. Jena said that “Primary care doctors don’t usually talk to older men about safe sexual practices, and that’s partly because rates of STD’s are much lower in this group than in younger men, on the order of one per 1,000 individuals.”
