Four Loko Makers Defend Beverage After Sickened Washington University Students News – Social drinking always has, and probably always will be very popular among the younger generation. However, a new drink named Four Loko has caused a lot of controversy as many students have been hospitalized after consuming large quantities of the popular drink. Reportedly, drinking one of the cans of the alcoholic beverage is equivalent to consuming between five and six beers. However, makers of the popular drink have firmly defended their product, saying that it is not this which has made the students sick.
The drink, Four Loko, contains high quantities of caffeine and alcohol. However, the makers of the drink say that it contains no more alcohol than regular rum and coke, and no more caffeine and alcohol than a vodka and Red Bull, which is another popular drink among students. Reportedly, because of the caffeine content in the canned drink, the effects of alcohol are not immediately felt. This then leads to people consuming more of the beverage meaning that they are in serious danger of getting alcohol poisoning without even realizing it.
There have been many people that have been defending the drink online. Some people have said that it is no different than drinking any other drink because the majority of students who are drinking are doing so with the aim of getting drunk. However, there are also some people who are saying that the alcohol content in the drink is far too high, as is the caffeine content.
