Sitting Kills:Health & Early Death Risks of Sitting Too Much – Sitting down for too long each day can become a serious health risk. Hitting the gym on a daily basis lowers this risk, but a new study suggests that even individuals who work out regularly and spend a good portion of their day sitting in an office have an increased risk of early death.

In order to keep yourself active, be sure to sign up for a gym and exercise on a daily basis. You may also want to ensure that you do not spend long period of time sitting in one spot, and break up your “sitting time” with frequent trips around or outside of your office. For example, walking to the coffee machine during your coffee break, or walk down the street to the closest Starbucks.

Individuals who are obese present an increased risk of early death if they spend most of their day sitting. Keep in mind that sitting does not just mean behind a computer at your job, it also means in front of the television and playing video games.

There have not been all that many studies that have taken a look at the toll that sitting has on one’s body, but the results have been very conclusive; it is terrible for you to sit for more than six hours per day.

Alpa Patel, a researcher at the American Cancer Society analyzed surveys responses from over 120,000 individuals who had no history of cancer or heart disease. The results showed that individuals that spend a good portion of their day sitting down have an increased risk for early death.
